"There are two sides of magic. Neither evil, neither good… it is only the choices and actions of the wielder which shape the fate of all man, we can only say choose wisely."

The Mages Guild was the dominant institution for the training and study of Arcane Magic in Anthos. Looked over by the Arch-Mage, the Guild did seek out those who they consider magically sensitive and train them within their mysterious art.

Admittance

The Guild was known for its selective nature in choosing apprentices, getting access to the college and its resources is not an easy task. Before joining the guild one must first speak with either the Arch-Mage or Master Wizard to be tested and granted apprenticeship. These tests range from simple conversations to quick glance over, it seems to change from person to person. Upon acceptance into the Guild, the apprentice will spend time attending weekly lectures to learn the basics of Arcane Magic. If their attendance is adequate as well as their progression, they will continue on to select a master to train under, based upon their desired Arcane Sub-Type. If all goes well here, they will take a final test known as the Somonium, a dangerous and difficult task which many fail. If the apprentice happens to succeed in this test the Conclave of Magi will grant them full membership into the guild, as well as the title of Mage under their sub-type. Said mage may continue training under new masters, or move on into the realm to put their skills to use.

Ranks

Arch-Mage

The Arch-Mage controls every aspect of authoritative power within the Guild. This is not to say that the Arch-Mage does not give a bulk of his responsibilities to the Master Wizard and Archanix, however matters too dire for them to decide upon are brought before the Arch-Mage to resolve.

Master Wizard

The vice power to the Arch-Mage, the Master Wizard acts as the right hand of the Arch-Mage. Their duties range from recruiting apprentices and running the day to day activities of the Guild. They are also expected to take up the Arch-Mage’s roll while they might be away conducting other forms of research. Despite their roll, any of their decisions can be vetoed by the Arch-Mage at any time they find it necessary.

Archanix

Also known as the Librarian, the Archanix plays a key role in the academic aspect of the Guild. Their responsibilities require them to act as the care taker of the Guild’s magical items and archive the numerous books the College stores. Authoritatively they lack a great deal of power; however their role as the controller of the knowledge in the Guild is a necessity. The Archanix has access to all books within the Guild.

Masters Retrieved from some of the more powerful mages, or even produced by the College itself. The Masters, otherwise known as Professors, are alumni of the Order who have taken up a teaching position in the Guild’s ranks. Considered to be “masters” of their art, their duty is to teach and train the apprentices the Guild draws in.

Mages

Mages are not actual members or staff of the College, however are considered Alumni or College Graduates. The Mage position is for those who have completed their Apprentice training under the College and have been deemed a proper Mage by the Conclave. Despite their inexistence of political power within the Guild they are still welcome to return to the College as their whim and use the Guild’s resources, continue training under other magical sub-types or conduct their own independent research.

Apprentices Hands selected by the Guild for magical sensitivity, the Apprentices are the newest practitioners of the Guild’s art. The first few years of their training consist of a lecture style teaching, however as their lectures come to an end, and they are chosen by the Conclac, they are to select a Master to take Apprenticeship under and be trained in their specific specialty of magic. Once the Master believes them to be advanced in their art, they are taken before the Conclave and must perform the "Somonium". If they complete this ritual they will be inducted into the Guild as a Mage.

Mages Guild

Students who become adept in their magical studies and exhibit wisdom and a sensitivity to the balance may be approached to join the Mages Guild.
