The Principality of Sedan was founded by House de Joannes in the year of 1811 during the Sedan Rebellion, in which Louis de Joannes attempted to establish Sedan's independence. Despite Sedan's defeat in the rebellion, the Principality of Sedan has lived on several years after the rebellion took place.
