Ivory Order

The Ivory Order of Laureh'lin was formed out of a need to militarize the elven state with the threat of brewing war among the Descendants and undead. Each member of the Order is referred to as a Son of Cernunnos, for Cernunnos, the druidic aspect of the hunt, is the Order's patron. Each member is trained to be an expert hunter, tracker, and swordsman. The Order puts a heavy emphasis on discipline and formations when in battle.

As Laureh’lin is reborn anew in Leyulin, the jewel of the free elves, the last remnants of the Bronze law fade away into memory. With the change in the tide comes the need for a change in the military. And much like the rest of the nation, the guardians of Laureh’lin are born anew.

The Ivory Order serves as both the enforcers of law within Leyulin, and it’s standing military in times of war. Each member is styled as a Son or Daughter of Cernunnos, the Druidic aspect of the hunt. For each member of the order is trained to be a hunter at heart. New blood or Veteran, initiate or Commander, to be one of the Sons is considered a position of immense respect in Laureh’lin society.

A Son or Daughter of Cernunnos accepts the following responsibilities upon their initiation into the Ivory Order

-=To serve the Republic in honour and faith, to keep it free and peaceful, in life until death=-

-=To guard the honour of fellow children of Malin=-

-=To put the safety of the citizenry before ones self=-

-=To enforce the law with a firm, respectable hand, not by wielding fear=-

-=To never turn down a challenge from an equal=-

-=To never turn their back to the foes of the nation=-

Ranking System The elves of the Ivory Order follow a linear chain of command:

The Council -=- All Elves of the Ivory Order are bound to the will of the elected three Chancellors of Laureh’lin, and follow their command as they would their own commander

The Meracah’ir (High Commander) -=- The leader of the order, who acts out the will of the council and leads the Sons and Daughters of Cernunnos as he deems best. His title translates to ‘Keeper of Balance’, though his common rank of High Commander is more often used.

The Laureh’niut (Marshal) -=- The High Commanders second in commands, there may be up to four Marshals in the Ivory order at any time. These veteran elven hunters lead the newer members by example and hold authority to command in the absence of the High Commander. Their title translates to ‘Chosen Seconds’.

The Haler’tir (Oathed) -=- The Haler’tir (meaning ‘Pledged to the Law’) form the bulk of the ivory order. They exhibit great discipline to their commanders, and a fierce bravery in battle. Although considered rank and file, each oathed Son/Daughter of Cernunnos is held in as high regard as their commanders.

The Fi’sil (Initiate) -=- Initiates (‘New Blades’ in elven) are the newly joined members of the order who have not yet taken their oaths. All new members go through a period of training to have their honour and skill determined before being given the opportunity to swear their oaths to the order and move up to the rank of Haler’tir.

While on duty, all members of the order will go by the names of their official ranks. However, each member, Haler’tir and above, holds the honourary title of a Son/Daughter of Cernunnos

Armaments -=- Elven Longsword A lithe, sharp and deadly weapon. An elven blade always has a finely honed edge. An especially mobile weapon which gives its wielder much room to move in combat.

Elven Longbow When wielded by a hunter of trained skill, an elven longbow is just as, if not more deadly in force and accuracy than any arbalest, with superior range. The Sons of Cernunnos train years to master this fatal weapon

Pilum A versatile weapon capable of both melee and ranged combat. A pilum provides superior reach in close quarters combat, and serves as a powerful projectile when thrown towards an enemy

Sons and Daughters of Cernunnos don a light layer of plate while on duty. The order’s smiths find a happy balance between efficient protection and reliable mobility in combat.

The Oath -=- Once an elf has completed the initiate stage of their training, they must declare an oath of service to the Council to advance further. The oath is as follows.

I, , Hereby accept all responsibilities placed upon me as a protector of the realm. I swear to uphold the law with a firm hand, yet never wield fear as a weapon. I swear to take up arms for my nation in times of war, and be forever vigilant in times of peace. By taking up arms for Laureh’lin, I swear that my cause will always be just, my honour never tarnished, and my judgement always reasonable. I am a Son/Daughter of Cernunnos, a Hunter of the Ivory Order.
