Isabel Alexandra Baruch (Common: Isabella Alexandra; Ayrian: Iseabail Leacsaidh), was the eighth Duchess of Valwyck and the 33rd Palatine of Hanseti-Ruska. She was the second ever Lady Palatine and the second matriarch of House Baruch, following her father’s abdication of his titles and his resignation as Lord Palatine.

Early Life

Isabel Alexandra Baruch was born on the 4th of Harren’s Folly in the year 1848 to parents Eirik, the Duke of Valwyck, and Princess Anastasya Isabel, the Duchess of Karlsburg. She was the firstborn of five daughters, marking her the heir-presumptive from birth.

In her childhood, Isabel was known to be quite ambitious and studious. She could usually be found in the library studying Haeseni law, history, and politics with her tutors if she was not seen with her cousins or siblings. Notably, Isabel also had grand aspirations, one of those being to rise to the role of Lord Palatine as her father had before her. Her childhood was also marked by a close friendship with Maric var Ruthern, to whom she would be betrothed at the age of eighteen. She also garnered close bonds with the future Queen-consort of Hanseti-Ruska, Amadea Ulyssa, Sorina Luceafaru, Elizaveta Bihar, and many others of her generation.

At the mere age of sixteen, Isabel was elected to the Royal Duma as an Alderwoman, where she dutifully began her career in politics. From then on, Isabel gained firsthand experience in areas such as law, Haeseni history, and other aspects of the Hanseti political landscape. Her experience would prove particularly useful later on when she would rise to the position of Lady Palatine and Duchess of Valwyck after her father’s resignation and subsequent abdication of his titles.
