The House of Ruthern-Batavus, commonly referred to as House Batavus was a cadet house of House Ruthern, and a vassal of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. The House was the ruling house of the Viscounty of Batavia. It had a total of two Patriarch's, and only had Nobility for a few years before losing it, and ultimately being dissolved.

History

The Rise

In the year 1745, Ivan Ruthern alongside a few of his friends stormed into the heretic lands west of Oren known as Brunswick. Their intention was to drive out the heretics and claim the land for themselves in the name of their God. This began the siege of Brunswick, which only a few days. After many days of tough fighting, and many casualties on the defenders side, the Leader of Brunswick surrendered the land. Ivan and his friends cheered as they were successful in their endeavor. Over the course of a few days, the heretics packed up their belongings and vacated Brunswick. Ivan returned back to his home a few days after the siege to report his success to Andrew IV, the King of Hanseti-Ruska. The King was impressed by his brave deeds, and offered Ivan the title of Viscount of Batavia and his own cadet house Ruthern-Batavus in exchange for vassalizing under him. The city had been damaged from the siege, so there was much work to be done. Ivan hired his close friend, Hogo Bojo to plan and oversee the reconstruction and renovation of the city. This restoration effort lasted for many years, and costed tens of thousands of minas. Once the city was complete, the Viscount thanked Hogo for his hard work over the years on the city. Ivan was excited that his lands were finally ready for use, however there was much work he still had to do in the Royal Capital, New Reza. With the exception of a few workers upkeeping the town, it remained vacant for a few more years.

The Attempted Coup

A few members of Ivan's Council, some of which were part of the siege that gained the lands were furious that the lands had remained almost completely vacant for a few years. They wished to enjoy their new positions and privilege's that came with hit. However, this could not happen if there was nobody within the lands. This led to some of the Council Members attempting a coup. They petitioned to his Majesty the Holy Orenian Emperor, Peter III saying that in exchange for his support in the coup and a Barony title that they would pledge their allegiance to the Imperial Crown and vassalize under them. One of the members on the traitorous side was really a double agent and leaked this information to Ivan with all due haste. The Viscount was furious at this news and acted immediately. He sent a letter to his Imperial Majesty that requested that he declines the offer of his traitorous Council members. Peter III obliged as he probably did not wish to annoy the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska by poaching some of their lands. Due to this the traitors had no muscle or backing, thus the coup fell apart as they had no way of taking over. Ivan quickly ordered the banishment of the rogue Council members from his land. Thus the attempted coup came to an end, and Ivan continued to control the land as he had for years prior.

The Downfall

However, all good things must come to an end. The city only was complete for a few years before Ivan ordered it to be torn down at the behest of his Majesty, King Andrew IV and for as much of the resources salvageable to be put into storage. The resources that were salvageable were put into storage areas throughout the Kingdom. His Majesty also told Ivan to relocate as his land wasn't connected to the rest of the Kingdom, and was quite a distance away. After a few more years, the town was torn down, and all the salvageable resources were successfully stored in various warehouses. Ivan waited patiently for his Majesty the King to give him new lands within the Kingdoms borders. Many years went buy with the house having no lands, yet they still retained their title and Nobility.

The Attempted Comeback & The Death

At last what appeared to be a turning point for the house occurred. Ivan Ruthern-Batavus was summoned before his Majesty the King and was knighted for his many years of hard work in the military. Shortly after Ser Ivan was knighted, talks began about him receiving his new lands within the Kingdom. Although life can sometimes be deceiving. The talks about land fell through and the house as it had been for many years before then, continued to have no land. Many more years went by with the house still retaining their title but no land. One day the Holy Orenian Emperor, Peter III demanded that he should make the final decision on who gets Nobility within the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. King Andrew IV reluctantly agreed, which lead to many Noble houses having their titles called illegitimate. House Batavus was unfortunately one of these houses, so their Nobility and title Viscount of Batavia were stripped/dissolved. Ser Ivan continued to lead the house for a few years before giving up on it, and abdicating to his second son Ruben Batavus. Ruben was overjoyed at first to lead the house that he waited his entire life to lead. However, since the house no longer bared a title, they were not considered nobility or got the privilege's that came with such. He wanted to the best for himself and his family so he decided to dissolve House Batavus and merge back with the parent house House Ruthern.
