House Palaiologos is an Akritian house with a rich history, filled with tragedy as most male leaders of the house thus far have ended up being executed or murdered.

Vailor

Demetrios Palaiologos II, also known as Ser Demetrius, founded House Palaiologos sometime during Vailor. This occurred under Richard Staunton’s reign of the Duchy of Courland, when Richard Staunton Granted Ser Demetrios the keep of Kraken’s Watch, which was then renamed to Nikea.

For years, House Palaiologos ruled over Nicea under the service of the Stauntons, siding with Alexander Staunton when he challenged his younger brother, Anden Staunton's right to rule. Not long after this, Anden Staunton removed House Palaiologos from Nikea and gave it to House Vanir, in an effort to reclaim the Duchy. Soon after this, tensions arose between the Stauntons and Vanirs, which lead to the Riga War. Following the coup placing the 7 year old Percival II on the Ducal throne, Ser Demetrios was captured by a Carnatian soldier and executed in front of his children.

Axios

Upon the death of their father and the arrival in Axios, Constantios Palaiologos joined the Dreadlands forces. He managed to survive the war despite the Dreadlands losing and went into hiding for many years, living as a commoner. The only notable Palaiologos left at that point was Demetrius’s sister, Theodora Palaiologos, who lived in Haria for some time in some minor position of power.

Then, from seemly out of nowhere, Constantios came out of hiding with a group of his fellow Akritian men and sought out Archduke John d’Amaury. John d’Amaury agreed to give land to Constantios, who then founded the small barony of Pyrgos. From then on, House Palaiologos loyally served house d’Amaury. Even during The Coalition War, during which the rest of Lorraine’s vassals had either rebelled against them or remained neutral, House Palaiologos remained loyal from start to finish.

Soon after the war ended, John d’Amaury passed and his eldest son, Lothar d’Amaury took over with a regency council ruling in part. Following this, whispers arose that Constantios was to be executed and, upon finding Lorraine’s forces rallied against him outside, he declared independence from Lorraine. He was summarily executed by one of the soldiers after they had stormed the keep. Following this, House Palaiologos, now lead by Constantios’s nephew, Romanos, left Lorraine with a handful of men still defending Pygos, and left to serve the Stauntons in the second formation of the Kingdom of Courland.

Upon arriving in Courland, Romanos Palaiologos was given the title of Holy Ser and allowed him to establish a holy order in Courland. Eventually, Romanos went on to become a vassal in Courland, rising to the position of Duke, where he loyally served the Stauntons up until the creation of the Principality of Evreux. During this point, Romanos and the rest of his house joined in the Santegian Rebellion, during which they overthrew the Stauntons and began serving House de Savin in the Kingdom of Santegia. Romanos continued to rule the Duchy of Mystria under Santegia, up until he abdicated and gave up his position to Demetrius III Palaiologos. Demetrius III quickly stepped up and took a leading role in Santegia. Upon the return of Romanos, he sought his ducal seat back, only to be cast out by Demetrius III and the rest of Santegia. After that, Romanos vanished, but later returned unfortunately dying shortly after in Santegia's capital city.

Prince Demetrios of Mystra was assassinated whilst defending Santegia against raiders allied to the Barony of Keintania during the Keintanian Rebellion, and the rule of Mystria was taken over by his wife, as regent for her young son. During this time, however, a man named Stephanos rose up and joined the Duchy of Curon. He stood in opposition to Santegia for their casting out of Romanos. Shortly after this, he took over the Duchy of Mystria once more, until the end of Axios.

Atlas

Upon arriving in Atlas, Stephanos once again went to Curon, with the last few members of house Palaiologos, though at this point it is no longer considered a noble or gentry house.
