The House of Ludovar (Common: Ludovar; Raevir: Ludovic; High Imperial: Ludovii) is a Human cadet-house formed by Jakob Ludvik, the illegitimate child of King Stephen I of Haense. Thus the house is of Barbanov lineage yet of the Stephanian Bloodline. The family's current marriages include unions to the House of Ruthern, Grimm, Marna, Vyronov, de Aryn, Langford, Anion, Rovin, Preussen, Stafyr, Sarkozic, Amador, Halcourt, Baruch, Barclay, Kortrevich, de Astrea, de Joannes, Barbanov, Colborn, Vuiller, and Kvazyev.

History

Axios

In the year of 1612, Jakob Ludvik Barbanov was born to the daughter of a miller and King Stephan I. Jakob would be legitimized where he would then be granted the Prince of Markev title by his father, but once he was legitimized a few years later he would have found the name Ludovar due to him being far from succession. With the new family founded he would then marry Adrijana Ruthern even though he was in love with the Royal Cook of the name of Evelyn Fourneaux. The family would remain in the city of Alban until being forced off of Axios fleeing to Atlas with the rest of the world.

Atlas

Arriving in Atlas, the family initially kept to themselves, content to keep humble lodgings within the palace of the Krepost in Markev. However, this changed with the elevation of Jakob’s eldest son, Otto, to the position of Lord-Auditor on the on the council of King Sigmar sometime around 1675. Otto was granted the barony of Otistadt for his excellence in both service and loyalty to the crown. He also secured a marriage for himself earlier in his youth from a noble family of Aeldinic origin, House Grimm. This union, to one Valiette Grimm, produced three children: Stefan, Emma, and yet another Jakob. His sister, Milena, would go on to marry a Prince of House Horen-Marna, John, producing a son named Charles. His younger brother, Jakob, would sire three children by his wife from House Vyronov: Henrik, Mary, and Julya.

Years passed and Otto continued in his duties to the House of Barbanov, who are still the current Kings of Haense. His eldest son, Stefan, grew to become a renowned warrior and poet, known for his wooing of any noblewoman that caught his fancy. His youngest child, Jakob, was educated more for stewardship and trade, currently owning several businesses and shares within multiple thriving companies at a young age.

Otto’s only daughter, Emma, was a different story. Sent to live with her mother’s family in their distant homeland, she was originally trained to be a soldier and warrior like her elder brother. However, in 1677, she was called home to Markev by her father, chosen out of her other siblings and cousins to be her father’s protegee and student in politics and administration. An astute young girl, Emma took to these lessons with some eagerness, always wanting her father to be proud of her. The two were never close in regards to their familial bond, but the daughter had a great respect for her father, caring for him in the illness that eventually overcame him in 1685, causing him to resign as Lord Auditor.

Proving herself to be a worthy heir to her father and his work, the Privy Council granted the young girl several titles, to be held by her and her heirs: Princess of Ulgaard, Duchess of Kvaz, Countess of Mondstadt, and Baroness of Mehran. With these grants of both titles and land of her own, Emma swore fealty to the King, her cousin Robert, and began to ensure her father’s legacy was continued through her.

With her father’s illness keeping him confined to his chambers, Emma began with taking on the responsibility of raising her younger brother, Jakob. The two are known to be very close, the younger viewing her much like the mother that he never truly got to know. Emma would reside within the city of Markev, serving as Princess and acting as Lord-Seneschal upon the King’s Privy Council, achieving the goal her father had set for her as a child.

After years has passed, Emma Ludovar would marry Baron Hans Rovin of Arnheim to which she would receive two children. While a few months past after having her children she would later abdicate her titles to her youngest brother, Jakob Marius Ludovar, who would then be known as Duke of Kvaz. When Jakob became Duke he would grant his cousin, Ser Henrik Otto Ludovar, his mothers family title of Baron of Lizat due to his work for the family and renown he had within Haense.

Following the Ludovar's untimely death, the title was inherited by Jakob, establishing him as the Prince of Ulgaard.

Upon the arrival to Reza, the new capital of Haense, the Ludovars would then again live inside a manor in a joint manor this time consisting of both Preussen and Ludovar. Prince Jakob II began his work on expanding his business within Reza by getting ownership of the Bank, Tavern, and so on within the city with the help of the Kortrevich's. Though while Jakob was off doing business, Sir Henrik would spend his time with his family as well with helping around the city. As the family slowly began to get comfortable within the new city allegations would begin to grow towards Prince Jakob this would later result in the Ludovar Trial. Once the trial was over it left Jakob to leave his titles to his only heir, Ser Henrik Ludovar a cousin to Jakob.

After a few years had passed, the War of Two Emperors would break out to which the Ludovars raised their banners to help defend their Kingdom from the Empire of Renatus. During the war, Petyr Ludovar, Henrik's firstborn son would marry Adela Grimm to which they'd produce a son named Aleksandr. Following the birth of Aleksandr the Ludovars the war would later result in a defeat making the Kingdom of Haense and the Ludovars a vassal of the now formed Holy Orenian Empire.

The family still serving the Kingdom of Haense and also the newly formed Seventh Holy Orenian Empire, Henrik seeing that his youngest son, Maric, is legal age of marriage would set sail towards Aeldin with him in order to find him a wife. The voyage was safe with calm weather for the two Ludovars to which the mission they sought to do came to success to which the marriage of Maric Ludovar and Aelinor of Raven were wedded in the Barony of Salma in Aeldin. Meanwhile, Petyr Ludovar kept things in order for his family in the city of Reza for his father while he was away.

In the year 1730, Duke Henrik had passed away due to old age passing the titles of inheritance to his firstborn grandson, Aleksandr. Upon Aleksandr's accession to the Ducal seat, he arranged a marriage with Sofya Valeria of House Baruch, the great-great grand-daughter to Ser Joren 'the Marksman' to fully end the family feud that has carried on since the reign of his cousin, Emma Ludovar.

During Aleksandr's reign, the title of Duke was stripped away by King Andrew IV, although the reason was not made public, it's suspected that the reason is the lack of the House's contributions to the Kingdom. Aleksandr unfortunately got sick and this lead to him passing away, leaving his son Fredrick I taking over as the leader of the house. Fredrick I worked hard, creating a military company under the Haense Royal Army, referred to as the Ludovar Company. Due to his hard work and military service in the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska and the Holy Orenian Empire, he was bestowed the title Count of Otistadt in the year 1777 by the Holy Orenian Emperor. The Emperor also gave him the town Johnstown which was located in the Northland.

Almaris

Following Kazimar's abdication, Robert I, Baron of Otistadt inherited the titles and responsibilities of the house. Together with his brother, Aleksey Luka, he worked in order to restore the house's title and glory in various ways such as founding the Ludovar foundations and many businesses under it, becoming a sergeant in the Brother of St. Karl at the age of 20 and staying on active duty until his last breath and many donations to the crown. Their efforts ultimately failed as in 1837 the house was demoted once again by Heinrik II. Robert died with his sword and steed protecting the keep, it is suspected he fought against frost witches as he was found staked by an ice glacier which, according to the residents of the land, was not there before.

With his father's death, Johann I, Robert's eldest son inherited the title and accepted the role of the leader of the house with pain. Even before his father's death Johann was a hard worker, gaining the role of the High Justiciar of Hanseti-Ruska. He devoted his life to justice and kindness, opening an orphanage, and giving advice and guidance to many who sought help. He cherished his family more than anything and worked to give them the best life he could. In 1861, Johann gained back the lost titles of the County of Otistadt and Viscounty of Sezwesk, bestowed upon him by Sigismund III of Haense. Following the elevation, Johann decided to rename the Baronial title as Juliksburg, inspired by his unending love to his family. After Johann's illness took the best of him, his second daughter Adele Emma inherited his title becoming the second ever matriarch of the house.

Adele I was very close to her father before he passed and his death affected her very deeply, especially because she was pregnant with her first child at the time. Nevertheless, Adele devoted herself wholly to her work. She worked hard as a Jovenaar of the Kingdom, eventually being granted the rank of Lady Justiciar, as the Kastellan of Labour and Domestic Trade within the Treasury, and she also served dutifully for two terms as the Lady Handler of the Royal Duma. Each of these many positions were integral to maintaining the prominence of House Ludovar as a County, though Adele also engaged with various other matters. House Ludovar hosted various events of gross popularity within their estate, Adele arranged for the renovation of the Keep in which she was born - Kazstadt - and had Ricksburg built in its place, as an act of charity she increased the wages for Physicians of the Hospital of St. Amyas, and Adele also opened and managed Ludovar Bits n Bobs to great success within Karosgrad. Adele was unfortunately taken at the age of 63 in Ricksburg by a recurring illness she had retained from childhood.

Succeeding her mother as her first-born child, Emma II sought to continue her mother's work in the Clinic of St. Amyas. She worked with the Surgeon General to open an apothecary stocked with alchemical and medical tinctures which the people of Karosgrad could use to keep themselves healthy. Emma was married to Samuel Vuiller of Aquilae at her mother's behest while she was still living, and she bore 4 children to him. Unfortunately, Emma found herself with a similar but more severe condition to her predecessor that caused her to disappear for years at a time, causing the County of Otistadt to pass to her eldest son, Henrik II soon after he reached the age of majority. Like his mother and grandmother before him, however, Henrik was ill throughout his entire brief tenure as Count of Otistadt.

During the period of inhabitation in the Underdark after the fall of Almaris to the Mori'quessir, the remaining members of the House of Ludovar opened discussions with their distant cousins of the cadet House of Kvazyev to ask them for assistance lest the family name die out. To rectify the situation, Henrik decided to abdicate his title as Count of Otistadt in favour of the Kvazyev patriarch, Stanimar I who was deemed as more suitable to manage the Ludovar estate and titles over the remaining heirs who were not yet of age. To solidify this transition and the unification of the two branches, it was decided that Emma II's second-born, Klara Marie Ludovar, would marry Stanimar's heir and son, Jakob Otto Kvazyev, once the two were of legal age. It was hoped that this decision would bring the House greater stability, especially when entering the new continent.

The field of the Ludovar coat of arms is the colors of black and white presenting Duke Henry I's mother, Theresa Vyronov's family. A golden crow rises from a crown with grey on its wings representing the family coming from a legitimized bastard from the House of Barbanov.
