House Merentel-Verheyen is a minor House within the Suffonian court, it is a cadet branch of House Merentel, founded by Lyam Merentel on the 13th of The Grand Harvest, 1753.

History

House Merentel began as a vassal under the Kingdom of Curonia during the War of Two Emperors, the Kingdom of Curonia remained loyal to the Emperor of Renatus, Godfrey II. Then in 1717, the Kingdom of Curonia switched sides in support of Joseph I, Holy Orenian Emperor, commonly known as Joseph Leopold Marna, thus weakening the position of House Merentel within the Court of Curonia, as a result of their relations with Godfrey II. Thus prompting them to seek refuge in the Imperial City of Helena, after the War of Two Emperors came to an end in the year 1721, ending with a Renatian victory. As a reward for their loyalty to Godfrey II, they were granted the title of "Duke of Vintas". And thus the foundation for the Duchy of Vintas was set, four years after the War of Two Emperors.

The Vintasians settled in the wild and unforgiving frontier of the Empire, within close proximity to the Rexdom of Krugmar, they set about the construction of the city of Alannor, during this time they became direct vassals to the Holy Orenian Empire. With it, they were granted a seat at the House of Lords, during their prime they boasted one of the largest military forces in the Empire. They maintained great relations with their Orcish neighbors until a series of unimaginable calamities would befall the otherwise peaceful region. The Rex was challenged by the Raguk for Rexdom, subsequently ending the Gorkil clan's reign. In the following weeks, the new Rex of Krugmar proclaimed that the Duchy of Vintas belonged to the Orcs. And in the months that followed the tensions escalated into armed conflict, and finally, war. The belligerents met on the battlefield. The future of Vintas was to be decided in the Battle of Lowveld, which ended in a disastrous defeat to the Vintasian and Orenian allies. The events that unfolded led the remaining Vintasians to renounce their vassalship to the Emperor, prompting them to return back to The Kingdom Curon once again as vassals. The city of Alannor was granted to the Imperial Military, to use as a base of operations in the fight against the Mokh Uruk.

Upon their return to the Kingdom of Curonia, the young Duke handed over the title of Duke to King Pierce I of Curonia. As a substitute for the loss of their home, the King granted them the title "Duke of Eastmark" on the 7th of Horen’s Calling, 1734. In the years that followed, House Merentel cemented itself into the Curonian court, once again proving their loyalty. It wasn’t long before they became part of the Privy Council.

In the year of 1740, the Rubern War broke out, marking a series of bloody conflicts between the Holy Orenian Empire and its allies, consisting of the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, the Kingdom of Kaedrin, and the Kingdom of Curonia, opposing the loyalists were the Alliance of Independent States, consisting of the respective signatories from the Principality of Rubern, the Duchy of Morsgrad, the Rexdom of Krugmar, the Blessed Diarchy of Haelun'or, the Arch-Duchy of Suffonia the Royaume of Auvergne, the Order of Arjen’s Cross, the Confederation of Mau'Madur, the Piastdom of Zakopane, the Forest Realm of Irrinor, the Union of Renelia-Gladewynn and finally, Talons Grotto.

As the war raged on House Merentel was finally divided into two sides, Tobias Merentel opted for remaining loyal to Curon with his remaining forces. Alexander Merentel, later known as the "Oath-breaker", led the Eastmarkers following him to Suffonia, where they settled in the years that followed, one such man was a relative of Alexander going by the name of Lyam Merentel, former Justiciar of Vintas. When the war waged on Alexander pledged himself and his Household to fight for Suffonia, where he later abandoned them and went to see Tobias Merentel. Thus they colluded to denounce all bearing the name of Merentel, with the exception of Tobias, in a desperate bid to grant him full autonomy over the House. It was then that Lyam Merentel took the opportunity and swore fealty to Suffonia, and right the name of Merentel to one of honor, and a profound sense of loyalty. And thus in the year 1753, he formed his own cadet branch to right the past under the name of Merentel-Verheyen.

In more recent years that followed the young Merentel set up his own Distillery company, The Merentellian Distillery co, and took on a more civil role within the Suffonian hierarchy. And in the year 1756, he was offered the opportunity to join the Payne Family, and make a new life for himself, and thus the name of the Distillery was changed to the Gyldenholt Distillery Company the same year. Only four years later the news of the dissolution of Suffonia which he looked at with great disdain toward the weak decision of the House of Suffolk, to abandon the people of Suffonia to an uncertain fate, with countless states with hostile intent setting their greedy gaze upon this stout bastion of independence.
