Full History

Before the Creation of Redclyf

Founding of Redclyf, 77 S.A

House Mösu emerged as a resilient and ambitious clan within the harsh environs of Norland. Over generations, they meticulously navigated the hierarchical landscape of the Ashguard, striving relentlessly to earn recognition and respect. However, their journey within Norland was fraught with challenges. Despite their dedicated efforts to make substantial contributions to the kingdom, tensions brewed, and conflicts emerged with influential figures, albeit not directly with the King. Disagreements and lingering differences became a constant in their journey within Norland. Friedrich, an esteemed member of the Mösu family, chose an alternate path, embarking on a journey southwards to pledge allegiance to Savoy. While Friedrich remained committed to his newfound allegiance, the Mösu clan found themselves increasingly disenchanted with their treatment in Norland. Feelings of disillusionment and neglect mounted, propelling them to a pivotal decision. Leaving behind the icy landscapes of Norland[1], the Mösu family set forth on a journey southward, seeking a new life in a more embracing and congenial environment. Their search led them to a terrain adorned with striking red cliffs near Myrine, where they established their settlement and laid the foundation for a fresh beginning.[2]

Post-Creation of Redclyf

Fort Myrine, Dual-Duchies of Redclyf-Rozania, 81 S.A

The Mösu family's settlement in the red cliffs marked the genesis of the Redclyfians. This transition signified not just a geographical relocation but a resolute commitment to independence, honor, and unity. Following Savoy's disbandment, Redclyf found itself thrust into independence, facing continued disputes with Norland. Understanding the necessity of fortifying their standing, the Redclyfians embarked on ambitious endeavors to fortify their town and foster robust defenses. During this period, they shifted their settlement to the nearly abandoned town of Myrine, gifted by the ex-Princess of Savoy. This shift heralded a new chapter in their history, fostering alliances with neighboring regions, notably the Clandom of Daeland-Vistulia, former vassals of Savoy. Despite the relocation and fortification efforts, Redclyf's animosity towards Norland persisted. Incidents fueled by misunderstandings, perceived crimes, and provocations intensified tensions. An abduction incident involving Uhtred, a Redclyfian, escalated into retaliatory actions[3], leading to a mediated settlement where Redclyf complied with Norland's demands via Daeland-Vistulia's intervention[4]. However, despite compliance, the bitterness toward Norland deepened, prompting Redclyf to retreat into isolation.

House Mösu's Turbulent Phase

Adaranth's assassination of one of the Crossed crow band Captains, N/A S.A

As Redclyf faced hardship and dwindling prospects, Friedrich's decision to pass the title of Duke to Björn Ragnarrsson Mösu proved detrimental[5][6]. Under Björn's inexperienced leadership, Redclyf's decline hastened, driving many citizens away and leaving the once-revered Myrine in ruins. Seeking a fresh start, those remaining, including the royal House of Mösu and loyalists, sought refuge in Balian. Despite being granted the title of "Barony of Ciavola," they lacked land initially but retained their noble status, providing a semblance of stability. Discord brewed within Balian as Björn and his brother, Kol Ragnarrson Mösu, engaged in a bitter feud, exacerbated by a rivalry over the affections of the same woman. Accusations, including Kol's claims of Björn being a vampire, tarnished the family's reputation and escalated tensions to a breaking point. Unable to reconcile, Björn challenged Kol to a duel in the ruins of Myrine, resulting in a fatal confrontation that stained Björn's hands with the blood of his kin, earning him the title of kinslayer[7]. The family fractured, leading many Redclyfians to depart Balian while those who stayed faced marginalization and removal from the kingdom's nobility. Despite attempts at reunification, the family endured lies and slander, struggling to regain their former stature. One day, Björn discovered an opportunity in The Verdant Glade and assumed leadership, bringing his family there to rule. Under his guidance, the Glade flourished, but mysterious events unfolded as Björn's lifeless body was discovered under enigmatic circumstances, With Björn's demise and leadership passing to Pyeter, the eldest yet young heir, House Mösu faced an uncertain and darker path. Forced to relinquish leadership of The Verdant Glade, the Mösu family retreated to a camp nearby, striving to rebuild amidst adversity. Bjorn, son of Kol, began asserting influence within the camp, swiftly growing its numbers alongside Adaranth, who amassed large following in the camp, tensions brewed, culminating in a destructive raid on Norland orchestrated by Adaranth. Bjorn, wary yet influenced, reluctantly participated. A year after, Bjorn obtained a significant artifact, triggering desire and intrigue among others. Adaranth's warnings went unheeded when Krugmar expressed interest in the artifact. Bjorn, believing in honor, carried it to Krugmar, Upon arrival, the Redclyfians encountered a trap set by the Rex of Krugmar, who demanded a duel for the artifact's possession. The gates closed behind Bjorn, locking him into a fateful battle against an orc while his sister, Ingrid, held the artifact, Adaranth quickly orchestrated a cunning plan to aid the Redclyfians. Under his guidance, Ingrid smuggled the artifact out of the city, substituting it with a fabricated replica fashioned from an orcish orb. Presenting the counterfeit to the orc in the arena, Adaranth manipulated the situation, convincing the orcs of the genuine artifact's absence outside the city walls. Hours passed, and Bjorn, left abandoned by Adaranth's false promises of rescue, attempted a desperate escape, only to suffer severe injuries. Apprehended by the orc who initially betrayed him, Bjorn faced brutal retribution, gruesomely blood eagled in a public spectacle of vengeance[8], Reeling from the traumatic events, the shattered remnants of House Mösu and their supporters sought solace in a village under the rule of House Bolivar within the principality of Sedan. Adaranth, in his relentless pursuit of power, forcibly obtained the artifact from Ingrid. In a violent altercation, Pyeter, Bjorn's heir, suffered grave wounds, and Ingrid was brutally blinded as a stark warning against opposing Adaranth's authority. As time passed, an unexpected visitor arrived in the village—the same orc who had betrayed Redclyf in the past. Confrontation with Adaranth ensued, and it wasn't long before other Redclyfians joined the fray. The orc initially held his ground in the skirmish, but as more Redclyfians rallied to their side, he realized the odds were stacked against him. He fled, only to find himself trapped within a swamp. Adaranth, relentless in his pursuit to manipulate the redclyfians by proving himself, hunted down the orc, engaging in a final showdown that resulted in the orc's demise[9]. The Redclyfians avenged Bjorn's death by blood eagling the fallen orc's body, making a chilling statement to all who witnessed the grisly spectacle. Amidst the turmoil and chaos, Pyeter slowly began to heal from his injuries. A deal was struck with Petra to grant the Redclyfians land within the commonwealth[10], offering a glimmer of hope for the once-mighty Redclyfian family. But Adaranth's influence remained, casting a dark shadow over the future of Redclyf, where a sense of impending doom loomed on the horizon.

Settling in Failor and the Great Redclyf War

Sacking of Redclyf's Outpost, 130 S.A

After striking an accord with the Commonwealth of Petra, the House Mösu and the other Redclyfians were forced to flee southward as the Mori'Quessir, known as the Mori, initiated a catastrophic invasion of Almaris. The devastation and conquest wrought by the Mori's invasion coerced the Descendant races to escape through an underground cave network, eventually arriving on the Island of Failor.

Upon their arrival, the Redclyfians hastily established their outpost in the heart of the small continent, strategically positioning themselves near a river that traversed the land. Amid this settlement, Adaranth—engaging in disturbing and unconventional actions—instigated turmoil within the community. Despite the majority of Redclyfians opposing his deeds and even engaging in conflicts against him, Adaranth rallied a faction of fervently loyal followers, promising them future land and security.

Under Adaranth's leadership, this faction wrought havoc upon the land, conducting raids on neighboring outposts, demanding tribute from passersby near the river, and even perpetrating an egregious act—blinding Halfling King Cyris Collingwood and pilfering his prized crown. Subsequently, missives circulated throughout the outposts in Failor, branding the Redclyfians as bandits, cannibals, and murderers of children—a stunning blow to the House Mösu and the entire Redclyfian community, thus starting the Great Redclyfian War[11]

In response, Adaranth ordered the construction of a larger wall around the outpost, asserting dominance while anticipating future conflicts. Employing guerrilla tactics, Adaranth evaded direct confrontation with the Coalition, frustrating their efforts despite their superior numbers. He taunted and humiliated the Descendants by parading the Redclyfians close to the Halfling village.

However, the Coalition eventually managed to breach the Redclyfian outpost, setting it ablaze.[12] Amidst the chaos, Markus, Duke of Adria, apprehended Adaranth. Following a brief trial, where Adaranth purportedly renounced his past and claimed conversion to canonism, he endured the punishment of having his hand severed.[13] Escaping with some of his loyal followers, Adaranth's departure left the Redclyfians in disbelief and further tarnished their already-damaged reputation.

Subsequently, the events in Failor severely impacted their standing, making a prosperous future seem increasingly elusive. The Descendants, including the Redclyfians, eventually migrated to a newly discovered continent named Aevos, seeking a fresh start amidst the remnants of the tumultuous past.

House Mösu's and the Deception by Petra

A Mösu family metting held in one of petra's taverns, N/A S.A

After their migration to Aevos, House Mösu arrived at the grand capital of the Petra Commonwealth, eager to claim the land promised to them in the vassalization agreement. Expecting a warm reception and a swift settlement, they approached the Archduchess, only to be met with a stunning revelation. The Archduchess, citing the need for further territorial expansion, deferred granting the land to House Mösu, assuring them it would be forthcoming. However, the promised land never materialized.

As time ticked by, House Mösu found themselves ensnared within the bustling capital, left to wait for land that never arrived. Rumors began to circulate that the Petra Commonwealth harbored intentions of absorbing House Mösu entirely into their noble fold, erasing the initial agreement that had granted them vassal status. Frustration and confusion mounted within the Mösu ranks, grappling with a sense of betrayal as the agreed-upon terms seemed conveniently forgotten by the Petra authorities.

Stranded in the capital, House Mösu was coerced into contributing to the city's prosperity. Some members resorted to establishing their own businesses, trading in raw materials to make ends meet. Pyeter, the head of the house, found himself unexpectedly assuming the role of the second-in-command within the Petran military, while Joseph Mösu became the inaugural mayor of Petra's new Aevos capital.[14]

Despite these roles, cracks began to form in the Mösu-Petra relationship. Years passed, and the promised land remained elusive. Joseph, burdened by the city's financial obligations expecting him to pay for the city's projects from his own expense and even attempting to tax the clinic, and feeling abandoned by the government, found himself embroiled in disputes. A particular incident involving a brawl between Mösu members and Wood Elves, who were Petra vassals, resulted in the Mösu feeling unjustly penalized by the Archduchess's ruling.

The tensions escalated. Joseph, valiantly defending himself during the altercation, faced a harsh judgment that favored the Wood Elves, exacerbating House Mösu's growing disillusionment with the Petra authorities. Feeling increasingly isolated and unsupported, Joseph eventually disappeared, leaving the Mösu family fractured and adrift within the tumultuous political landscape of Petra.

As the years wore on, members of House Mösu vanished or departed from Petra, leaving the once-vibrant family in shambles. Despite abiding by the agreement's terms, Petra callously ejected House Mösu without just cause[15], exacerbating their already tarnished reputation stemming from past events in Failor and Adaranth's legacy.

Left with nowhere to call home, despised by many due to false accusations and events beyond their control, House Mösu found themselves at their lowest ebb since their inception, a shadow of their former glory.

Neon Genesis of the Redclyfians

The brothers-in-arms of the Friedrichian Band leaving their farm in Lemonhill to fight against the Vale & Norland at “Grubnakh’s Charge”, 148 S.A

In the annals of their history, House Mösu faced a period of dormancy. Many of their members had succumbed to fate, while others chose divergent paths, relinquishing the Mösu name. Yet, a resilient faction endured, weathering the storm of slander, animosity, and hardships. Among them, a zealous figure named Hannes Steelguard, tracing his lineage back to Friedrich the First, emerged as a beacon of hope for the remnants of House Mösu.

The league of Veletz, nestled within the domain of Verbant in Rivia, became their sanctuary. Within this refuge, they clung to their traditions and beliefs. Some among them assumed the role of priests, steeped in spiritual practices, while others found solace as mercenaries. However, despite their varied pursuits, a collective dream began to gestate—a yearning to reforge their tarnished legacy and avenge past wrongs.

From this ember of hope emerged the Friedrichian band, a collective of Redclyfians and Mösu descendants. Lemonhill served as their nucleus, a base camp from which they operated. Initially focused on eradicating the darkspawn threat in Lurin[16], their ambitions swiftly expanded, embroiling them in larger, more consequential conflicts.

A pivotal moment arose when the Iron Horde extended an alliance, amplifying the Friedrichian band's influence in the escalating warfare between major factions. Their collaboration marked a turning point, drawing more descendants of Redclyf into their fold. Hannes, cognizant of his family's fragile state, ensured their shelter within the fortress offered by the Iron Horde.

Amidst their ascendance, Hannes orchestrated an alliance with House Pinemaw, aiming to resurrect the titles of Rozania and Redclyf[17]. As he assumed the mantle of Head of House Mösu, he forged new alliances and expanded their reach. In a dramatic turn, the reigning Rex, Kybal'Akaal, sought to expel the Redclyfian ally, the Bronze Band. Moreover, he dismissed an agreement with Grubnakh the Elf[18], another key supporter of the band. Faced with this tyranny, the Friedrichian Band rallied alongside Grubnakh, forging an alliance with the Bronze Band and orcish clans united against the despotic Rex[19]. Their unified resistance swiftly compelled Kybal'Akaal's resignation without confrontation[20]. His voluntary departure[21] marked a significant victory[22], granting the Friedrichian Band authority over the entire coastal expanse in the southern eastern territory[23]. With this acquisition, the band and their fellow Redclyfians claimed dominion over the region, including the abandoned town and its fort camp. Amidst the ancient fort's walls, a vision took shape—an ambitious plan to restore lost titles, revive the Mösu lineage, and fortify their position against the perpetual cycle of decline. This pivotal moment heralded the emergence of a new era, brimming with renewed optimism. Under the banner of GOD and REDCLYF, House Mösu glimpsed a promising horizon, a testament to their resilience and an affirmation of a brighter tomorrow.

Culture

Isidore Mösu writing the sage of Björn and Kol, 154 S.A

House Mösu's culture is characterized by a resolute spirit forged in the harsh, snow-covered landscapes of the north. Rooted in their Highland heritage, the Mösu people have cultivated a culture that values unity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to their ancestral legacy. This enduring culture is an integral part of their identity and touches every aspect of their lives.

  • Notable Traditions & Costums

Comming of Age One of the most defining aspects of Mösu culture is the "Coming of Age" tradition. As young men and women transition into adulthood, they are challenged to prove their worthiness. For young men, this often means participating in daring trials by battle or embarking on treacherous polar bear hunts. These endeavors instill a sense of valor, resilience, and responsibility.

Adoption is no stranger to the house and nor will it ever be since it was used by the founder, Sir Ragnarr Mösu "Barbarossa", to strengthen the family and grow in numbers. The way that adoption is done in the house is different to how others might do it. While some just make sure the adopted bear the surname of the family, the Mösu House takes it abit further. Due to the fact that some are adopted in the family and are not Mösu by blood or flesh, those that are adopted shall cut their hand alongside the current head of the house, which is related to the founder, and shake eachothers hands to ensure that their blood is mixed and united. There are cases where one of the two parties or maybe both are struck down with sudden illness which can inturn lead to death. If the adopted dies from this illness then they shall not be considered a Mösu and seen as unworthy of the name. Meanwhile if the house head dies from this then it shall be seen as a sign that the "adopted" is a snake and unworthy yet again.

Saga Chronicles House Mösu maintains a cherished tradition of meticulously recording its history through sagas. Dedicated scribes and historians preserve the family's past, recounting significant events and heroic deeds with intricate artwork. These sagas serve as a source of inspiration and guidance, reinforcing the family's commitment to preserving its legacy for generations.

Martial Heritage House Mösu upholds a tradition of honor and dedication in their mercenary service through the Friedrichian Band. This legacy, born from generations of martial expertise, involves training young family members for a life of valor and chivalry. Joining the Friedrichian Band allows them to carry the Mösu name into foreign conflicts, demonstrating their commitment to upholding justice and preserving their heritage. This tradition signifies Mösu's unwavering commitment to noble ideals and their reputation for honor and bravery in the world of mercenaries.

Commerce Heritage House Mösu's tradition of commerce centers around their Mösu Trading Company. This legacy involves imparting knowledge and skills in trade, resource management, and negotiation to the younger generation. Apprenticeships within the family's trading ventures equip them with expertise to navigate the complexities of buying, selling, and handling valuable resources. Members who join the Mösu Trading Company embrace the family's legacy of prosperity, carrying its reputation for ethical business practices into the world of trade

The Friedrichian Band, born from diverse lineages but unified under the Redclyfian heritage, traces its origins to the visionary leadership of Hannes Steelguard. Established in the year 145 S.A., this valiant assembly resolved to wield their swords not just in foreign wars but also in staunch opposition to the agents of Iblees. Though relatively modest in size throughout its beginnings, the band has showcased remarkable courage, actively engaging in pivotal conflicts like the Elven Jungle War, the Orcish Civil War, and the Third Usurper's War.

In the annals of the Second Age's 153rd year, Jonathan Mösu scribed the inauguration of the Mösu Trading Company. Born amidst the tumult of the Third Usurper's War and the Orcish Civil War, its genesis resonates with the purpose of bolstering the Friedrichian Band. Initially catering to rebellious clans and vassals, this enterprise burgeoned into an expansive network spanning nations. From Urguan's heart, it extended its reach, offering an eclectic spectrum—from raw materials and construction essentials to a diverse bounty of farming produce—across the continent of Aevos.
