Godric Edvardsson Ruric also known simply as Godric reigned as Duke of Morsgrad from the years 1733 FA until his death in 1766 FA. Most notable for reviving the Rurikid house into a dominant force like it was during the days of Seahelm, as well as declaring war on the Holy Orenian Empire so as to halt aggressive Orenian expansionism in the independent states. Godric is also credited for founding the Alliance of the Independent States, an alliance that would face off against the Orenian Empire in the Rubern War shortly after its establishment.

History

Godric Edvardsson Ruric was born in the Ruric Capital of Morsgrad to Earl Edvard II and Freya Fiscere. Godric was raised in the ways of a traditional Ruric, through the art of swordsmanship and general horseback, although Godric would take a serious interest in writing and history, much like his kinsmen Alvar Ruric a previous King of Norland. Godric would become considered somewhat a genius by the people in Morsgrad, and Godric quickly began to use such skills in court. At the tender age of 18, Godric had taken up most of the courtly duties whilst his father was away on political dealings.

Godric would then assume the title of Duke of Morsgrad after the death of his father during a duel in the Great Hall of Morsgrad. Godric would quickly enact a series of reforms marking for a slow restructuring of the Morsgradic military, law system, economy, and lastly a taxation system that all landowners would have to abide by in order to maintain their residence. Godric for the majority of his few years spent most of his time preparing Morsgrad in case of war, as numerous allies of Godric had felt under the threat of possible Imperial expansionism. Godric would call upon all Independent States to a meeting in an unknown location, where they would discuss the very much real possibility of war with the Imperials, as war seemed to be upcoming. Godric was rather skeptical of throwing Morsgrad into a war with the Imperials, due to the sheer lack of numbers Morsgrad could produce for wartime. Godric would spend months off recruiting soldiers from the countryside and vassilizing numerous minor Barons and Earls to be placed under Morsgradic protection.

Fatherist-Canonist Relations

The relations between the religions of the Red Faith and Canonist have always been one of great warfare, although Godric after readings books about the Third Crusade and Atlas Coalition War realized that it would make the most sense to come to a compromise with the canonists, especially due to Godric allowing in large groves of Renatians into Morsgrad. Godric would send a letter to the current head of the Canonist religion Daniel VI, stating that Godric offers to send numerous scholars to the canonist church to learn and better acquaint themselves with the religion. The Church happily obliged and referred Godric to the Church of Saint Robert in Ves as the location that he could send his scholars. Since then, Fatherism and Canonism relations were at a height and no conflict seemed to have occurred, however with war dawning against the Imperials, many Fatherists believed the Canonist Church would fight against the faith in the war, prompting whispers and rumors to erupt within Morsgrad on the relations between themselves and the canonist. Tensions were very high between the Renatians (adhering to the Canonist faith) and the Morsgradic populace, although all of such simmered down a few months after the marriage between the Horenic Princess Eleanor and Duke Godric.

Marriage

Godric Ruric is married to Eleanor Helena in the year 1735 within the Morsgradi capital of Montstadt. Local populace was skeptical of the marriage at first due to the high tensions between the Rurics and various Horen branches. The two tied the knot in the winter of 1735, infront of nearly the entirety of Arcas with the exclusion of a few minor states. Godric granted his newly wed various positions most importantly Alderwomen of Morsgrad. Although the marriage was eventually cut short a few years later, due to the unexpected death of the Duchess.

Rubern War

Despite Godric's attempts at peace war was declared with Godric fronting the war effort of the AIS Coalition. Numerous skirmishes occurred between the AIS and the Imperials, many falling in favor of Godric. With the minor victories beginning to stack up in Godric's favor, it sparked morale in the Morsgradic ranks and encouraged many young Morsgradians to join in on the combat. The war began with a sudden boom, with numerous road skirmishes, raids, and attempts of capture between the AIS forces and Imperial forces, at one point in the war, Godric fronted a raid to capture the Imperial Empress, doing so successfully, as well as managing to capture the Emperor during an Imperial rescue raid, although eventually the Emperor would be released with life-threatening wounds, although was treated by the monks in the Cloud Temple. The wars morale eventually hit a halt, and either side had lost all general interest in a war that seemed to have no end, as no gains had been made, despite being at war for years, as well as the mounting deaths from either side, had a major effect on morale.

With the recent death of his wife, and in the middle of the war with the Imperials, Godric was growing tiresome, often finding himself staying up late nights to ensure the greater possibility of an AIS victory, although due to the mounting stress and a stalemate during the war, Godric decided to leave the issues of the realm with his kinsmen Chadmyr Edvardsson Ruric, whilst he went on hunting trips and traveled the countryside, as well as working on improving recruitment numbers. With this sudden decision of Godric, Chadmyr went to work and began working on establishing a stable society for Morsgradic citizens to enjoy. Many reforms were put in place under the Regency of Chadmyr as well as the continuation of Morsgradic involvement in the war, with Morsgradic soldiers still showing up strong to every skirmish or raid. Although morale was falling quickly with the amounting death of Morsgradic soldiers, recruitment drives resulted in fewer and fewer soldiers moving towards the frontline against the Imperials, as Chadmyr was aware that if the frontline was lost the Imperials would be able to counteroffensive into Morsgradian territory.

Appearance

Godric Edvardsson Ruric can typically be seen wearing some sort of fur product due to Morsgrads location in one of the coldest areas in Arcas. Godric has a long black beard and short black hair, a general Rurikid stereotype (apart from the lineage of Javier Eiriksson Ruric which all bore brown hair due to Javier being a bastard prior to his legitimization). Godric takes a fine passion in writing speeches and documentation.
