The Empire of Man (High Imperial: Imperium Hominis, Raev: Celovekskaja Imperija) was a hereditary absolute monarchy situated on the highlands to the west of the Baltas River. The nation plays a pivotal role in policy and foreign affairs across the continents of Atlas and Arcas. The nation was renowned for their well regimented military, and possesses a booming lumber and mining industry.

The Empire was declared dissolved in 1715, by Antonius I, Emperor of Man after his regency council declared him in abstention and Godfrey III their new Emperor. It was succeeded by the Empire of Renatus. It is posthumously considered to be the seventh Holy Orenian Empire alongside the Empire of Renatus and Cascadian rule.

Culture

The Empire of Man proudly boasts itself as a home for all Heartlanders and Highlanders alike. Within the walls of the nation's capital, Carolustadt, is a melting pot of Waldenian, Batavian, Auvergnian, and small pockets of Raevir cultures. In particular, the nation is going through a resurgence of Waldenian culture and identity. As such, the new uniforms of the King's Renatian Legion are consistent with those of Waldenian landsknechts.

Social Organization

Notably, the citizens of the Empire are divided into five distinct social classes: The peasants, merchants and artisans, the gentry, the nobility, and the royalty.

The Peasants perform much of the hard labor within Imperial society. They perform jobs such as farming, construction, fishing, mining, etc. They hold few privileges and rights and are heavily repressed.

The Merchants and Artisans are either skilled craftsmen or they sell the wares of others. They make stable income and live relatively secure lives.

The Gentry are regarded as the warrior elite of Imperial society, the knights of the Crown. They are afforded many privileges such as governing a small fiefdom in the name of the Emperor, taxing the populace, the right to trial by combat, and the right to bear heraldic arms. In return, they are to raise their banners should their liege call upon them.

The Nobility is the established upper-class consisting of those with social birthright. Their lineages date back centuries and their name holds much weight in the Empire's affairs. They possess a high degree of affluence as well as privilege.

The Royalty consists of the Emperor, his consort, his heir (the Crown Prince), and the rest of the House of Horen.

Government

The Empire of Man is an absolute monarchy following lateral laws of succession. The Emperor holds paramount authority in the realm on all matters. However, the Emperor typically maintains a privy council of close advisors, whom he may delegate many tasks to or to act in his steed.

Law and Justice

The Empire follows close with the laws of the preceding Imperial States, and models its courts after its example. Without a unique legal system of its own, the task originally was delegated to one Alexandre d'Aryn - who had previously compiled an unfinished code of law for the Kingdom of Marna. However, the Ashford took the document to his grave, and none have yet succeeded him in its creation and publication. Although the original manuscripts do still lie untouched within the Imperial Treasury.

In the year of 1686, Emperor Aurelius sanctioned the creation of the Consilium Magnum de Imperiale Corona elevati Godefridus - otherwise known as the Imperial Parliament - to propose, scribe, and vote on legislation. The body consisted of Lord Temporals, selected land-owning nobles within the Empire, Lords Spiritual, selected clergy members under the Crown, the Imperial Privy Council, and elected Prefects. The Imperial Prerogative of the Emperor was key to the functioning of this Parliament, which placed the monarch supreme. Only with his assent could a piece of legislation pass through its halls.

Security

To ensure the Empire's sovereignty and to maintain order within the capital's borders, the Empire of Man relies upon the Imperial State Army of The Empire of Man. The Imperial State Army prides itself on military might and discipline. The Imperial State Army is organized as such:

The Imperial Renatian Legion

  • Carolus Brigade; named in honor of Carolus Horen. The brigade forms the primary infantry fighting force of the Crownlands.
  • Ram's Head Brigade; named after Count Eimar 'the Ram' var Burgundar, garrisoned and stationed on the borders of Götha.
  • King's Renatian Artillery; otherwise known as the 1st Siege Battery. This unit comprises experts of siegecraft and operators of trebuchets, onagers, and ballistas.
  • King's Renatian Engineers; otherwise known as the Sappers. May take on demolition roles in the battlefield or help construct various tools of siegecraft.
