Dworkin's Muses
Note: This creature can only be played by Event Team-Members.

History

Long ago in Ancient times, there lived a man named Dworkin. A powerful mage and inventor by trade, not much is known of this man and his works. In Aegis, some mages regarded him as a powerful sorcerer, a master of the magical arts, who once lead others such as him in adventures across the lands. It was said he and his band of adventurers were renowned for their efforts against Iblees and all those who served him in Ancient times, when Iblees first rose.


So little is known of the man, that there is not a person alive who can say what he looked like, or even what race he is. There are stories of him performing feats of magic of all kinds, and so steeped in myth is Dworkin and his story, that it is near impossible to tell the truth from the lie.


What is known is that he was an intelligent and hardworking man, with a love for learning and the arts, and restless hands which always yearned to create something or another. His knack for creating interesting and fascinating objects was dwarfed only by Rasmot’s… though he lacked much of the madness that came with that man’s creations.


Many of his works have been lost to the long march of time, and only rumors yet fly about what they were and what they did. Yet there is one body of works which has remained pervasive in rumors and tales since Ancient times… The Muses.


Created by Dworkin as a way to pass his knowledge on past his death, the Muses were constructs intended to function as both teacher and student. They would teach what they knew to those who desired the knowledge, and also continue to learn whatever they could as the world advanced and the knowledge of man grew larger.


They continued this work for some time after Dworkin’s death, but it was not to last… They were works of art, unequal both in form and function. But they were also powerful tools, constructs meant not only to hold knowledge, but to seek to gain more as well. Many a powerful Lord and King sought them for their own collections, and gained them...only to lock them away, forgotten in vaults after the Kingdom’s inevitable fall.


Worse were the mages, scholars, and researchers who sought to duplicate Dworkin’s finest work… Work which utilized arts so long-since lost that not a one of them could comprehend what they were doing. Instead of learning from the Muses and duplicating them, even the finest masters who tried to dismantle them to learn their inner workings, only destroyed them. In this way, many of the Muses became not only lost, but broken and useless.


The fate of the remaining Muses has been lost to time; Little proof exists of them ever having existed aside from rumors and myth…


Muses

Muse of Movement

The Muse of Movement was designed to master the physical, being especially fond of dancing. This Muse specialized in studying the movements of mortals and duplicating them. It was also capable of observing fights and predicting based on probability, with some accuracy, the next moves individuals would take, though it was not always correct.


This Muse was known for being one of the smallest and most svelte, built closer to a human or dwarf's height, so as to be able to more easily teach varying movements and dances. It also had a more feminine design (no, no golem boobs.).


Muse of Music

The Muse of Music was design to master sound. Spending all of their time in the study of music, voice, rhythm, and tune, the Muse of Music was an expert at nearly every known instrument of the time (including the function of windworks despite it’s inability to play them), and happy to teach them to any who wished to learn.


This muse was equipped with an advanced core-powered set of runes dedicated to vocalizations. As such, it was capable of singing in all possible tones and timbres, and could even duplicate different voices and styles of speech after hearing them repeatedly.


This golem was bulkier than many of the others due to the amount of instruments, supplies, etc it usually had on it. This Muse also had a variety of odd holes drilled throughout it, which, when it stood in the wind, would cause a melodic symphony to echo out from the body of the golem itself.



Muse of Blades

A master of many forms of combat, the Muse of Blades studied the art in all it’s forms, including the tools used. Not only was this Muse an expert in using blades, but a master of creating them as well. This muse valued functionality over form and disdained overly decorative blades or weapons, thinking them unsuited for the art of war.


It had perhaps the most plain chassis of them all, and was of a smaller build than your typical golem, being no more than 6 feet tall. It was capable, and in fact fond, of wearing different types of leather armor on it's outer body so that, when dueling, it could teach varying moves that were appropriate against opponents wearing different types of armor.


The Muse of Blades was in possession of an outer "skin" layer, which was a thin layer of soft, malleable clay. Thus, when struck successfully, it would leave a dent or damage to the Muse, demonstrating to their student the success of their blow. The Muse could then easily fix this damage later.


Due to being the most physically active muse and most likely to be accidentally damaged or destroyed in teaching lessons, this muse was created in such a way as to fall apart easily; But also to be easily repairable, even by itself, so long as the central cores in it's torso were not damaged. To prevent this the muse had both several layers of protective material all around its torso, and the layer of malleable clay 'skin'.


Muse of History

Designed to function as the Nexus of all historical and factual knowledge, the Muse of History was one of the most sought-after of them all. Likely the wisest and most well-built of all the Muses, the Muse of History vanished off the face of the lands...either as a result of being stolen or dismantled, or perhaps, having hidden itself away for it’s own safety.


Well known for being fond of all things historical, even that of others outside of the Dwarves, this Muse also studied language, considering it an intrinsic part of a culture's History and necessary to know in order to translate foreign works. Thusly it was capable of speaking in a myriad of different tongues. It was fond of books but not of writing, leaving the writing to the Muse of Literature.



Muse of Literature

Compatriot to the Muse of History, the Muse of Literature, rather than focusing solely on history, was more equatable to an expert Librarian. Ever eager to record knowledge in the form of tomes, the Muse of Literature was constantly seeking to record the efforts and work of all the other Muses, and indeed all other experts of it's time, and catalogue them in the most efficient and effective manner. While a walking Index of all the books within it's grasp, it was no expert on them nor their contents. It merely served to record.


As scribe-inherent for the Muse of History, the Muse of Literature possessed a small, folding tabletop on it's lower torso, which was capable of holding a book or tome open and faced towards the muse. It also possessed a secondary, smaller set of arms, which were use to write swiftly in this open tome, or to turn the pages for easy reading. It also had on it's back a backpack-like, locked metal box containing a set few of important tomes. (This was really just a backpack and not attached to the muse) It usually opened this 2-doored lockbox with one of its double-jointed limbs (all of this muse's arms were doublejointed using ball joints for ease of fetching reference materials) despite the doors being behind itself.


A living index, it often read out to the Muse of History anything from tomes he requests; But not having been built for memory, it would not memorize what it had dictated out.


Fond of organization as that was, partially, it's purpose, the Muse of Literature would often be seen organizing anything, anywhere it was disorderly. It would also take stories and dictations from the other muses to put into writing.


Rather than 'teaching' any one subject, the Muse of Literature facilitated learning by maintaining and providing a massive library of collected books. It also often gave critiques on writing, especially punctuation and grammar.



Muse of Art

A work of art in and of itself, the Muse of Art was the most intricately well-designed, decorated with an assortment of runic inscriptions, gems, and other modifications, some of which were made by the Muse itself. Expert not only of painting, drawing, and et cetera, the Muse of Art was also fond of more dwarven arts, such as stone-carving, gem-cutting, and the creation of jewelry.


Not built for fighting, as many of the Muses weren't, this Muse was incredibly decorative and sought after solely for it's looks and the wealth of it's base components. The foundation of the muse was made of a type of hardened clay, which it often painted different patterns and styles. It was then accessorized by a myriad of gelded accesories, being especially fond of hats, face masks, jewelry, elegant clothing, and gemstones.


The Muse of Art was, personality wise, more of an ardent lover of beauty who could see Art in even the oddest of places, as opposed to the overly-righteous judgemental art critic. This Muse found Art in Nature, War, Descendants and their lifes, animals, the Earth itself, and all other places. But with such a large variety of beauty and art available to learn of, this Muse was ever restless, ever seeking to know more, never satisfied with it's knowledge and always knowing that new advancements were just around the riverbend. They were, perhaps, the most melancholy and dramatic of the Muses.


Muse of Science

Ever marching onwards, the Muse of Science never would settle for believing it’s duty of gathering knowledge and learning of the more physical matters of the world would be done. Similar to the Muse of Art, the Muse of Science was ever restless, though not quite as dramatic, and never eager to break from it's duties. Constantly experimenting with volatile chemicals, metals, and other materials, the Muse of Science ironically would work closely with the Muse of Magic. Twins in a way, the two both vanished, perhaps destroyed by their own work.


Bulky and sturdy, the Muse of Science was built to withstand any chemical, physical, or magical damage inflicted upon it, due to the likelihood it would be effected with something along the lines due to both it's work, and the fact it was one of Dworkin's companions.



Muse of Magic

Companion to the Muse of Science, the Muse of Magic’s purpose was in gathering information about magic, magical relics, enchantments, and all otherworldly powers. Though obviously unable to practice magic itself, the Muse was still an expert conceptually in all known magics at the time, and was ever looking to learn more. Supposedly, the duo of the Muses of Magic and Science were the ones Dworkin was most fond of, and often accompanied him personally, assisting with his inventions.


The Muse of Magic was known to be in possession of a large assortment of enchanted items and other magical materials. Stern and silent, the Muse of Magic was perhaps better known as an Observer; Unable to practice or sense magic itself, the Muse would constantly be in a state of observation, able to draw objective conclusions based on what it saw or experienced.


Bulky and sturdy, the Muse of Magic was built to withstand almost all attacks, both magical and mundane... as well as any accidents wrought in the lab by it's brother. This golem was made of flourescent opal, and while it appeared a light purple, almost white shade in the sun, once underground it would glow a deep, dark shade of purple.


Muse of Medicine

A Master of the mundane arts of healing, the Muse of Medicine was a boon to the Dwarven Capital, being responsible for training any and all Dwarves who were interested in the arts of healing, including stitching wounds, tourniquets, and creating poultices and salves with Alchemy. Perhaps the most underappreciated by Dwarven society, the Muse of Medicine was likely the most useful of all the muses by far.


This Muse was smaller in stature and equipped with articulated fingers capable of rather deft and careful movements. It had many different medical supplies and inventions in it's arsenal of equipment, including a pair of metal gloves which were magnetic in nature, attracting any other metal to them; This allowed the Muse to hold tweezers or other small metal tools securely in it's hands.


Fond of alchemy, the Muse of Medicine could often be seen practicing it in it's spare time, and would teach others how to perform the art as well. However, it would only teach them how to make helpful potions, poultices, and salves; the Muse never would create poison nor teach others how to.


OOC/Redlines

  • The Muses are multi-core golems, usually with semi-decorative armor plating to make them appear both friendlier and to protect their intricate workings.
  • Dworkin was an ancient Dwarf. Spoiler alerts! This will not be known at the beginning of any/all events pertaining to this; Dworkin’s identity, both as the creator of the muses and as who he was.
  • The Muses are not as intelligent or self-sufficient as ‘perfect’ multi-core golems. They are specialized to specific subjects and are incapable of/uninterested in learning anything else.
  • If LM team agrees, certain Muses can be repaired. I would then like it to be possible for normal players to RP as them. It would be up to the person who successfully repaired them to decide who gets to play the character. Failing to RP the muse correctly CAN and WILL result in revocation of the character.
  • If a Muse is not played actively then the Muse can be taken away from that player and given to someone else to play.
  • Players must adhere to all golem standards with the following additional;
  • Muses are specialized to their subject; They do not and cannot learn about anything else and are incapable of doing so.
  • Muses will not recognize anyone as their real “Impera” but will usually follow orders of the person who repaired them, out of gratitude.
  • Muses are more fragile than normal golems. Their multi-cores are situated usually in their chest area protected by armored plate.
  • Muses have no interest in fighting unless that is their specific subject of interest. Most of the muses will, in fact, be incapable of fighting.
  • Muses are capable of forming mockeries of emotional connections but do not truly understand emotion.
  • A Muse’s purpose is to learn and teach; That is what they were created for and what their goal is, always.
  • Some muses will not be repairable or will only be partially repairable and will be reserved to be roleplayed by ET only.
  • Very few muses will likely ever be open for becoming player characters, but I don’t want to restrict these to just be ET characters that rarely get played.
  • The Muses cannot be altered or re-programmed in any way. They were specifically created in such a way that if one attempted to alter them, they would be far more likely to break them entirely.
  • The Muses are constructed entirely of earth/stone material which may vary, including hardened clay, quartz, stone, granite, etc. They have no metal or armor bits.
