The Crimson Edict (also sometimes referred to as "The Edict") is an organization originally dating from Asulon with the purpose of ending slavery, racism, and oppression. Their methods for doing such can vary substantially for the given situation and can range from teaching things such as trades, academics, and medical training, to aiding victims by providing them sanctuary or medical assistance, or may outright fight oppressors in various ways.

The Edict is considered a brotherhood, and thus the utmost importance to the Edict is loyalty to each other, even after death. When joining the Edict, one is required to take an oath for life swearing this loyalty. Due to this loyalty, they honor the dead former members of the Edict almost religiously, so much so that they often have shrines and other memorials to them, and the Oath is done before one of these shrines to represent the "witness of the Honored Dead".

They are currently vassals of the Grand Kingdom of Urguan and act as auxiliary military to the Legion of Urguan, though their function isn't entirely martial.

History

The Edict originated in Asulon, forming in the keep of Blackreach. While their original purpose was to exact revenge upon the Orenians, who had betrayed the residents of Crestfall, from which the Edict had formed. Soon, it became clear that the Edict had to fall in with the Dwarves, or face destruction. Thus began their long and illustrious relationship with the Grand Kingdom, where they still serve to this day. The Edict Has moved around many times, even dissolving at one point, before being revived in a small guild hall near the Halfling village of Goodborough. The Edict eventually grew, serving with the Mali'Fenn, before they fell in with the Dwarves once more.

Purpose

The main purpose of the Edict is to end slavery, racism, and oppression, or at least aide those who are currently suffering under such woes. The methods are variant to the situation. Currently, the Edict offers sanctuary to any runaway slaves, whitewash orcs, half-breeds that have no nation, et cetera, and will provide teaching, rehabilitation, and resources if needed. They also teach non-magical medicine and other academics. However, they have been known to attack oppressors, slavers, and racists directly or indirectly as well. They are not above kidnap, torture, and execution as methods.

Command

The Edict is run as a series of cells called "hafnas", each answering to a different Hersir. The Hersirs in turn answer to the upper-command of the guild.

Positions

Officers
  • Baldr

The Baldr is the leader of the Crimson Edict and has the final say in all matters of the guild.

  • Styrimoar

The Styrimoar serves as the second in command of the Edict. Often the mate of the Baldr, the Styrimoar is a prestigious rank to hold.

  • Félagi

Also called "The Master's Hand". This role helps the Baldr in running the administration of the guild. The Félagi is also responsible for advising the Baldr, as well as participating in diplomatic talks and wartime strategy.

Special Duties

  • High Position: Officers may pursue the same specializations as the non-commissioned members, with a few additional branches of study.
  • Low Position: Non-commissioned members of the Edict may study a wide variety of specializations. These include, but are not limited to: Medicine, Magic (If a teacher is available and willing), Artillery Operation, Specialized combat training, and Academia.
