Summary

  • 1548: The former Sohaer, Laethis Izalith, led a small group of High Elves in splitting off from the state of Haelun’or to create the city-state of Celein as a result of them perceiving Haelun’or becoming flawed beyond repair. This action created a large rift in the High Elven people, with several prominent families having members fall on either side of the conflict. Two decades later Kelthran Iyathir, who was the Sohaer at the time, sought to reunite the estranged peoples. The actions of both groups after that point evolved into the Celein Conflict. While never actually turning into a full war, diplomatic relations between the two states declined to an all time low and the people of Celein were forced once again to relocate while Haelun’or was forced to live without the boons it had been expecting from the smaller state. This event also caused the reputation of the Vigil to suffer significantly due to it’s very aggressive tendencies towards those known to be, or suspected of being affiliated with Celein. It is possible the Silver State was hoping to bolster their strength for the rebellion they participated in only a few years later. The events proceeded as follows:
  • 1559: Due to a grisly murder the hierarch of Celein, Laethis Izalith, was forced to retreat from active governance of the isle, leaving Orsino Acal’elor the stand in hierarch. During this time members of the Vigil came to the city to negotiate for the unification of Haelun’or and Celein. The agreement that was reached was found in contradiction to Celein law and was voided. This was not announced publicly until a few months later during Kelthran Iyathir’s grievances.
  • 1560: Kelthran Iyathir formally declares his demands from Celein to prevent a war, as well as listing his grievances with Laethis Izalith, hierarch of Celein. He did however, go to great pains to make clear that he held no ill will to the citizenry of Celein, whom he felt had been deceived by Izalith. He also proposed the legal argument that Haelun’or could no longer abide by the existence of the state, as it’s creation was a violation of Haelun’or’s laws. “ He and his mentally-corrupted people set out across the world in their search of power and depravity, forging a state in direct violation of the Blessed Laws of Haelun’or.” He proceeded to offer amnesty to all citizens as well as offering council positions to two prominent individuals from Celein.
  • 1560: Laethis Izalith offers a speech to his people as a response to the widely read claims made by Kelthran Iyathir (mentioned above). In which he attests that Haelun’or’s military (the Vigil) used the brief absence by Izalith to intimidate the acting hierarch into agreeing to Iyathir’s terms. (The rejection of which by Izalith was one of Iyathir’s main grievances.) In his speech he spends most of his time addressing two key issues; the first was the threat he saw from the Vigil’s increased aggression towards the city. The second was the wave of hostility towards Mali’aherals felt by the Uruks, something which posed a particular danger to Celein due to it’s high Mali’aheral population.
  • 1561: Negotiations are attempted privately between parties representing both states in the city of Lin’Sulan. A lack of trust between the negotiators and stubbornness from all involved led to negotiations breaking down quickly. This event was never announced publicly.
  • 1560: Dominion issues ultimatum to Celein. Essentially stating Celein gets to remain mostly autonomous while being absorbed as a client state of the dominion, this included creation of a vigil outpost on the Isle of Sanctuary and the implementation of Mali’aheral blood purity laws in the city. In exchange the city gets dominion protection and an indefinite ceasefire agreement from Haelun’or
  • 1561: Celein declines offer made by Dominion, instead signs treaty with isles of Sutica, a wealthy mixed race merchant state. The treaty places Celein as a vassal state of Sutica and renames it to Alaryhs. The newly re-christened state pledges levies in times of war in exchange for protection. Celein also was required to tear down where it resided at the time and relocate it’s populace to an isle near Sutica. At the same time Oren renewed its alliance with Sutica and pledged to prevent any of it’s vassals from harassing either state. Alaryhs also maintains its current government remaining mostly autonomous.
  • 1563: Demolition of the city of Celein takes place, orchestrated mainly by a handful of volunteers.
  • 1566: Construction of the new city is completed and housing is opened up to the general citizenry. Both parties are still hostile, but open conflict is over for the most part.

Result

Celein renamed to Alaryhs, made a client state of Sutica, loses some autonomy and forced to relocate, gains permanent protection and non-aggression pact from Orenian vassal states. Haelun’or fails to unite Mali’aheral people, mobilization of High Elves in Lin’sulan leaves Haelun’or with a large standing military organization. Considered a technical draw, Haelun’or maintains a distinct advantage.
