Carolustadt (High Imperial: Caroli Civitas, Raev: Karlgrad, Hansetian: Karl Ciutad, Illatian: Città di Carlo, Nevarian: Karlstad), a past Capital of the Empire of Man served as the Cosmopolitan hub from which the Empire exerted its influence upon the rest of Atlas. It boasted itself as a home for all humans, Heartlanders, Highlanders, and Farfolk alike. The City acted as the primary holding of the House of Horen, who resided far above the common folk in the sky-reaching Caesaromagnus Palace.

History

Construction

In the year of 1675, then King Aurelius decreed that a new city be built which would house the capital of the Crown of Renatus-Marna, replacing the Kingdom's former city of Senntisten. It was a long, and arduous process that consumed much of the nation's manpower. Much of the forests in the area were cleared, and the new city was raised where the trees had stood. Large amounts of stone were excavated from the mountains of Dragon's Spine, and carted down towards the build area. The construction of the city was said to have boosted the economy greatly, employing many Renatian men and women alike.

Namesake

The City of Carolustadt was named after the father of Aurelius, Carolus Horen. In Waldenian, the name essentially translates to Carolus's City.

Geography

The Imperial City of Carolustadt was situated in the foothills at the base of the Huckery Highlands. It's position put it not far off from the main road that ran the length of Atlas. The terrain surrounding the city was noted to be rough and at various elevations, with some coniferous forests scattered about. To the west of the city were the snow capped peaks of Dragon's Spine. From these imposing runs the River Stiegel, a tributary of the River Baltas.

Notable Buildings

Caeseromagnus Palace

Caesaromagnus Palace was a majestic monolith, unlike any other towers above the halls of Carolustadt. It was home of the Emperor and the House of Horen. It acted as the administrative headquarters of the entirety of the Empire, hosting much of the Empire's bureaucracy within it's walls.

Church of the Apostolic Martyrs of the Sepulcher of Horen the Savior

The Church of the Apostolic Martyrs of the Sepulcher of Horen the Savior or otherwise simply referred to as The Cathedral of the Holy Martyrs was a lavishly decorated, spacious middle of worship in the center of Godfrey Square. From wall to wall, it was covered with many paintings depicting many scenes from the Holy Scrolls, commissioned from some of humanity's best artists. Every sunday morning, the iconic brass bell of the Cathedral rang, summoning the inhabitants to hear the word of God.

Bath House at Romstun Road

The Bath House at Romstun Road was a particular favorite pastime for denizens of Carolustadt. Many of all ages payed a visit to wash, relax, and to socialize.

Mos Le'Harmless Cantina

The Mos Le'Harmless Cantina was the city's most frequented tavern. Positioned near frontal gate, many whom entered the city were drawn in by its allure. The tavern serviced its patrons with a selection of fine brew and meals, cooked on the spot. It boasted many other attractions, such as a piano in the common area, and a stage in which many thespians performed or rehearsed in front of the tavern-goers.

Defense

The Imperial State Army was charged with the defense of the Capital of Carolustadt. It was a standing fighting force, charged both with defending the city and waging war on behalf of the Emperor. Thus, they were afforded many privileges such as questioning, detaining, or imprisoning an individual with proper cause. Due to their permanence, unlike many lordly levies, they had amassed a large degree of professionalism and skill.
