Occurring on the 10th of the Grand Harvest, 62nd year of the Second Age, during the Urguani-Orenian War, the Battle of Lower Petra was the largest and bloodiest battle of Almarian history. It was fought between the Imperial Alliance and the Tripartite Accord. The majority of the melee was centered around Jarad's Tavern and the surrounding fields.

Prelude

Following the conquest of Lower Petra by the Tripartite Accord, Philip III, Holy Orenian Emperor launched a war of request to take back the former Orenian territory. While battles broke out in Karosgrad & Stone Tower, the majority of the belligerent's armies prepared for the inevitable skirmish that was to take place in Lower Petra. The Imperial Alliance began preparing for a siege on the Sedanite city of Haverlock. On the 1st of the Grand Harvest, 62 S.A., the Imperials began mobilizing. The Tripartite Accord followed suit and rallied an enormous host to meet the Imperials in an open field in an attempt to halt them from reaching Haverlock. On the 10th of the month, the armies met in Lower Petra. The Imperials had amassed a host of 14,200 while the Accord outnumbered them, having a total host of 17,100.

Battle

The Imperial Alliance, having moved the entirety of their infantry southwards towards Haverlock, took a defensive position at Jarad's Tavern in anticipation of the Tripartite Accord taking the offense. Around 8:00, the Tripartite Accord marched north on the Southern Highway towards Jarad Tavern. As they came in sight of the Imperials, Generalissimo Hugo van Aert ordered the Imperials to let loose barrages of arrows into the Tripartite's vanguard. In response, the Accord General ordered a full charge towards the van Aert's force. The two sides engaged in a fierce melee that lasted nearly eight hours with both belligerents taking approximately the same number of casualties. However, Arn van Aert, a cavalry commander for the Imperials launched an assault into the western Accord lines which finally broke the stalemate, leading the eventual withdrawal of Tripartite forces.

Aftermath

After nearly half a day of fighting, the remaining two-hundred Accord members withdrew into Haverlock. The Imperial Alliance achieved its first considerable victory in the war. While the majority of the high-ranking officers and noblemen from the Imperial rally returned to Providence, lower-ranking officers had begun moving several trebuchets to a staging camp near the Sedanite city.
