Andrik IV (Common: Andrew Peter, New Marian: Andrik Petyr; 9th of Malin's Welcome, 1729 - 22nd of the First Seed, 1753) was the 15th King of Hanseti-Ruska as the eldest son of Andrew III of Haense and Milena of Adria. He ascended the position as King of Haense upon his father's death from a boar whilst on a hunting trip. He ruled the Kingdom of Haense from 1746 to 1753, and in his final years gave regency to Ser Tiberius Barrow. Andrew was the head of the Haeseni monarchy until he succumbed to his wounds after saving his wife, Maya of Muldav, from captivity.

Early life

On the night that the Queen Milena was bestowed the heir to the kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska, the kingdom was overjoyed with the arrival of the royal child. Numerous revelries were held in name of the Grand Prince of Kusoraev, Andrew Peter. His father, Andrew III of Haense spent the days of party drinking with comrades and other Haeseni folk.

At the young age of two, the joy that was his beginning years came to a sudden halt. Andrew was kidnapped at the hands of heathens who had broken into the royal palace. All his nannies, governesses, and royal guards were found slaughtered with his crib emptied. The kingdom was sent into a panic, as were his parents who were quick to go north for several months in search of him. However, in the royal couple's endeavors, the Queen was captured. She was able to withstand the weeks of captivity and torture with her young child, protecting him at every cost. The royals were rescued not longer after the Queen's capture, in which Ser Alaric Hanethor of Nenzing alerted Adrian soldiers. Their location was revealed, and Andrew and Milena were safely returned to Haense.

His mother refused to let him out of the palace for many years following the incident. The Queen was overcome with fear that her child would be taken from her again and never wanted to see such a chance to occur in the slightest. Most of his beginning years were filled with tutoring and being isolated to the Prikaz, but otherwise, the rest is unknown other than his narrow dodge of death once more with the Fire of Reza. The protectiveness of his mother and others of the royal court hindered his ability to see the outside world and people, and thus he started to grow up as a reserved and anxious child. His first public appearance was at the coronation of his father within the newly made Ekaterinburg palace. During these times of his young life, he was betrothed to the Princess Arianne of Kaedrin.

Despite his high education that his mother had ensured was gifted to him, his stutter stayed no matter how hard the tutors or royal governesses tried to hinder it. It wasn't until he had met the young girl by the name of Maya Alimar, the eldest daughter of the Grand Prince of Muldav, that his stuttering began to clear. After their meeting, she remained as his closest confidant throughout his childhood.

The Rubern War broke out not long after his eleventh nameday. His father had grown absent, although his absence from Andrew's life was common as well as expected for the young boy. The war brought his family great tragedy, with his mother being assassinated three years later from the start of it. Her body was found below the tower of the residential keep of the Ekaterinburg palace and she was said to have been maimed before thrown from the tower's window. Only being fourteen, he took on the paternal role which his younger siblings, Prince Rupert and Princess Alexandria, lacked. At his side, Maya acted as a maternal figure.

He was gifted the title of Prince-Regent at the age of fourteen as the King was rarely seen about within Haense. Reports soon followed that the king had fallen ill. In his father's place, Andrew exercised powers of the Crown to try to stabilize the government that had seemingly started to fall apart. A year after this titular position was given to him, his sister Alexandria Ceciliya was brutally murdered after being captured by the Ruberni people. She passed at the age of nine and was repetitively stabbed until her death. Her body was retrieved and brought back to the Ekaterinburg, in which his anger continuously festered.

Less than a year later following the murder of his sister, the Kaedrini princess in which he was promised to disappeared. For weeks, she was not found and many believed her to be dead. With her disappearance from Haeseni court, Andrew proposed to the woman he had fallen in love with through the years- Princess Maya. Once they both reached the age of majority, they were married within the Basilica of Fifty Virgins and their holy matrimony officiated by the High Pontiff, Pontian III. The two would spend one year as the Grand Prince and Princess of Kusoraev before Andrew III passed away after having been attacked by a boar whilst on a hunting trip. Andrew ascended the throne as the King of Hanseti-Ruska on the 9th of Amber Cold, 1746.

Reign (1746-1753)

On the first day of his reign as the King of Haense, Andrew sought to settle the disputes between the feudalist and centralist benches. For months, the two political views had grown increasingly separated to an extent that it was causing uproar within the Duma. He went to Duma and addressed the people attending, in which he spoke of his disappointments in seeing Haense become so separated politically. The tensions had become so intense that the Lord Palatine, Markus Kortrevich, had an attempt on his life allegedly by a member of the opposing bench. Andrew called for unity, as they were still in the Rubern War.

Most of his reign was consumed helping aid the divides that had ravaged throughout the kingdom. While his father's early years of reign were known to be prosperous and great, his final years had caused the kingdom to fall rather greatly. On a particular occasion, houses of Kovachev and Ruthern challenged each other to a non-fatal duel after the Ruthern Lords had spoke ill of the Kovachevs during their meeting with the King. The young King was forced to resolve the differences between the two houses as his wife, the Queen Maya had insisted. Despite him letting the duel occur, his speaking to both of the houses afterwards as his wife had asked of him helped reconcile the nobles in the aftermath.

With the help of his Aulic Council, the King ordered for a complete overhaul of the military. Thus, the Three Ezreds were formed which encompassed the Brotherhood of Saint Karl, the Golden Hussars, and the vassal retinues of the kingdom. The military saw improvement due to the changes within the military that Andrew had implemented as well as the Lord Marshal, Erwin Barclay, who was well-liked among the populace.

Under the leadership and jurisdiction of Ser Tiberius Barrow, the Rubern War had slowly begun to turn in the favor of the Holy Orenian Empire. While it was rather dire and straining at the beginning of the war, the leadership of the opposing side had started to have issues amongst their alliances and the like. Andrew was not often seen within the battles of the war, as he was known to be far more studious than he was a warrior. While he had skills in swordsmanship, it was not his strong suit. Instead, he had grown into a charismatic person who had garnered a great love and respect for his people.

Andrew formed a cohesive government of national unity that lasted throughout the duration of his reign. His Aulic Council did not often meet as usual as other kings, though he made many other tactical appointments to governmental positions that allowed for a solid government. He created the position of Headmaster of the St Charles College and appointed Lady Hana Kovachev to the position of Royal Treasurer. With her appointment to the position, the Royal Treasury flourished. He also made elevations to the noble houses of Baruch, Kovachev, Barclay, and Kortrevich - all of which had contributed greatly during the beginning years of his reign and his father's. The Kovachevs were also granted the space which allowed for a medical program to be established by Lady Chesna Kovachev.

Toward the end of his reign, he was not as often seen in within the public eye. His council and wife ran the kingdom to the fullest extent, until the incident that would lead to his untimely death occurred. Queen Maya and his son, Prince Otto-Sigismund, were held with a knife to their throat. His wife bargained for their son to be released, in which she was then taken from the balcony of their chambers and captured by Haensemen who had grown bitter from his reign and the outcome of the War of Two Emperors. The King rallied his men to come to his wife's aid, in which a select amount of the finest swordsmen were brought to the location of her captivity once it had been revealed by Haeseni scouts. After two months of captivity, Andrew charged into the large group of men with others. The Queen was saved amidst the fighting, though Andrew continued to fight. He dueled the leader of her captors, in which he managed to kill the man only to receive great wounds of his own.

The King was rushed to the royal city and was treated by an ensemble of the clinic's nurses. There, he was reunited with his wife who was attended to on the bed beside him. All nurses and medics did their best to slow the continuous bleeding. People gathered outside to pray for the King and his health and many tried to rush inside to see how the King and Queen were faring. Guards blocked off the doors, only to let in a few visitors that Andrew allowed. Among the multitude of visitors was his brother, Ser Tiberius, and the High Pontiff. Pontian III prayed for his health and gave him his own cross. Over the course of the next few months, Andrew was bedridden and named Ser Tiberius as his Lord Regent, realizing that he could no longer run the kingdom in his state. He spent most of the time with his wife, or seeing his young children. After the ball known as the Dance of the Crows celebrating his eight years of reign, he passed away. His death was announced to the attendees, which left many in shock of the sudden death when many believed him to be recovering. He died on the 22nd of the First Seed, 1753.

Character and personality

During the early years of Andrew's life, he was greatly affected by the traumatizing experience of his brief captivity by unknown pagans. His mother, Milena of Adria, was overprotective of his presence within the court and daily Haeseni life. Thus, he struggled when it came to interaction with other children. He rarely was able to see anyone else outside of his family and tutors. He was well-educated, and able to focus easily on his studies. Andrew struggled with swordsmanship more than anything else, however, and found himself more interested with bearing his nose in a book.

His shyness and quiet demeanor showed throughout most of his childhood and into his adolescence. He only made few friends, although he was loyal to them and wished for only the best. Before the many draining years of the Rubern War, he was known to be a relatively happy boy. The experiences of his mother and sister's murder thrusted him into a more solemn, angrier personality. Although he was not his father, there were tidbits of his personality that had shown through on occasion when it came to the protection of his family. He loved his family as much he did the Kingdom. As King, he was well-liked amongst the people for his kindness and welcoming personality. He held a loving marriage with Maya of Muldav, and never held any mistresses during their time together as husband and wife. Andrew was often ridiculed for his humbleness when it came to being properly addressed or other traditional ways of courtly etiquette.

Towards the end of his life, he became a rather religious man and attended every mass that he could manage. He spoke highly of the Church of the Canon and often recommended to those around him to seek out a more pious life, with endeavors such as confession. Until his final days, he held onto the cross that he was gifted by High Pontiff Pontian III.
