Role

The role of the 1st Switzer Routier Regiment is to provide quality infanteers -who specialize in anti-cavalry warfare- to fulfill a contract of arms at home, abroad or on the field of battle. Each Switzer is regimented under the contract that binds them and is obligated to fulfill their duties until death or contract end. 1st Switzer Regiment of Foot does not work solely for money and personal gain as solo mercenaries are too commonly stereotyped as doing. The regiment, instead, is loyal to the length and terms of the contract that the Regiment's CO signs, regardless of how much is paid or if there are better contracts offered. Disloyalty and treason is punished severely, and is arguably a worse offense in this Regiment than any others out there. The stereotype that mercenaries are disloyal and will leave you for someone who pays higher is false, and 1st Switzer Routier Regiment lives to prove that.

History

Founding

The Switzers, as they are informally referred to, were conceived when a collection of seasoned soldiers joined together to form a company of mercenaries in the service of the various factions of the Empire. After denouncing the exceedingly high cost of the knightly destrier, the Irregulars adopted an entirely different style of combat from the popular cavalry skirmishing. The Irregulars decided to entirely forgo mounted warfare and to focus solely on the defeat of cavalry units. The Routiers chose the pike as their specialized weapon and the anti-cavalry formation known was the infantry square, or hollow square, emerged as their primary tactic on the field of battle.

Operational History

The Rexdom of Uzg Campaign 1579-1580

Following The Great Waghhh of 1577 in the orcish lands, His Imperial Majesty John Owyn, Emperor of Oren declared war on the Rexdom of Uzg. The first major battle of the campaign took place at a bridge and was named the Battle of Atlay. 1 Switzer Routier Regiment proudly assisted Oren in holding the bridge and defeating the orcish enemies on that great day, 17th of Malin's Welcome, 1579. A year later, Oren had finally fought it's troops to the Uzg Capital of San'Kharak. After a hard fight, 1SRR, Oren and her allies finally subdued the orcish threat on 12th of Malin's Welcome, 1580.

Let it be noted that the Regiment was offered 3000 minas by the Uzg to fight for them. Captain Garman had refused their offer because he had made a promise to H.R.M. John Owyn to fight for Oren a few weeks prior.

The Extermination of the Fenn Campaign 1587

During peace talks with the Snow Elves and His Imperial Majesty Philip Frederick, Emperor of Oren, it was declared that the Snow Elves must no longer be able to live. Following the declined treaty, Oren and her allies launched a campaign against the Snow Elves in hopes of destroying them once and for all. On the day of 8th Grand Harvest, 1587, Oren and her allies defeated the Fenn after a hard-fought siege of an unknown keep.

The Great Rebellion 1590-1595

The Battle of Mount Gorgon in mid summer of 1590 was the first spark of a great rebellion against Oren and her Allies, starting a long and brutal war that lasted five years and ultimately saw Oren crippled to her knees after the Siege of Johannesburg in 1595. 1SRR fought until the bloody end until late 1595 and was finally disbanded after Oren's defeat and loss of Johannesburg. Most Switzers fled or abandoned their duties, while few held their ground and were either killed or captured by Coalition soldiers.
